Cookie Policy

The short version: this site sets no advertising cookies and no cookie here counts you. Nothing here follows you to another website. What is set is what a login and a forum need in order to work, plus Google’s anti-spam check on the forms that would otherwise be filled in by robots.

What a cookie is

A small file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on the next page. It is how a site remembers you are signed in between one click and the next. Some are set by this site; some are set by another company whose code runs on a page.

If you never sign in

Reading the knowledge base or the news sets no cookies at all. Opening the forum sets one, wpforo_browser_timezone, described below. You can use most of this site without anything being stored.

Strictly necessary

These do not ask permission, because without them the thing you asked for cannot happen. Signing in without a session cookie is not possible.

  • Login and session (wordpress_logged_in_…, wordpress_sec_…, wp-settings-…). Set when you sign in. They last two days, or one week if you tick “Remember Me” or sign in with Google, and are removed when you log out. Alongside them: SESSnsl, which carries a Google sign-in through the round trip to Google and back (this visit only); keh_consent_deferred, if you choose “Not yet” when asked to agree to the terms (this visit only); and the security plugin’s own sign-in cookies (wfwaf-authcookie-…, wf_loginalerted_…), so its firewall recognises signed-in members.
  • A login test cookie (wordpress_test_cookie). Set on the sign-in page to check your browser will accept cookies at all. It is deleted straight away.
  • Forum (wpforo_…). Remembers which topics you have read, and what you typed in a reply box if you navigate away. One of them, wpforo_browser_timezone, holds only your time zone so post times show in your local time; it is set for anyone who opens the forum and lasts a day.
  • Comments (comment_author_…). Only if you tick the box asking us to remember your name and email for next time. One year.
  • Your cookie choice (keh_cookie_consent). Remembers what you chose on the banner, so it does not ask again. Six months.

Spam protection, which you can turn down

Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the contact form, the sign-up form and the forum’s post editor are being used by a person. It is one of two places a third party’s code runs on this site (the other is Umami, which counts page views; see the Privacy Policy), and Cloudflare keeps one entry in your browser’s local storage, under its own address (cf.turnstile.u), for the check. It sets no cookie on this site. Cloudflare receives your IP address and some information about your browser. Cloudflare’s privacy policy and terms apply to that.

If you decline it, Turnstile is not loaded while you read the site. It is still needed to submit one of those forms, because otherwise they fill up with spam within days. If you go to use one, the page will say so and offer to load it then.

Signing in, signing up and resetting a password are the exception: the protection on those pages stays on whatever you choose, because it is what stops other people’s accounts being broken into, and an account you do not own is not yours to leave unprotected.

What this site does not do

  • No advertising, no ad networks, no retargeting.
  • No Google Analytics, and no advertising or cross-site tracking of any kind. Page views are counted by Umami, which sets no cookie and identifies nobody — see the Privacy Policy for what it records. The site also keeps its own anonymous count of page views and link clicks, which sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device either.
  • No social media tracking pixels. The share buttons on a forum topic are ordinary links; nothing loads from Facebook or X unless you click one.
  • Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone for their own purposes.

Changing your mind

Use the Cookie settings link in the footer at any time. Your choice is stored in a cookie on your own browser, so a different browser or device will ask again.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser’s settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones means you will not be able to sign in, which is a browser limitation rather than a decision of ours.

This page sits alongside the Privacy Policy, which covers everything else we hold, and the Terms of Use. Questions: contact@keh-tech.net.
